Frequently Asked Questions

Which handbuilding class is suitable for me?

Those interested in handbuilding can sign up for our Handbuilding Touchy Feely Workshop, where you'll spend an afternoon learning and practicing the basics of the craft!

For enthusiasts who are looking for a more in-depth course, you can take our Handbuilding Slow Down and Make Course. In 4 weeks, you will be taken through the foundations of handbuilding to glazing over good conversations and bring home at least 3 of your clay crafts!

Can I bring home my creations?

Yes, you can bring home the pieces made during classes! Participants in our Handbuilding Touchy Feely Workshop and Wheel Throwing Taster Class will be able to take home one glaze-fired pottery piece, while students in our First Steps - Wheel Throwing Course can bring home up to six of their creations. Your completed pieces can be collected after 4 weeks.

Additional pieces can also be fired and glazed at an additional cost of $10.00 SGD per piece.

Is handbuilding difficult?

Handbuilding is considered one of the easier and beginner-friendly ways to enter into the world of pottery! But although it is more accessible, advanced techniques can be difficult to learn so slow down, and with ample practice, you will master it.

What is the difference between handbuilding and wheel throwing?

Wheel throwing is the use of a potter’s wheel in creating ceramics, shaping clay into a vessel or other inspired pieces. This allows you to create pieces that are more symmetrical and polished but is considered a more intricate craft with a steeper learning curve.

Handbuilding, on the other hand, is the creation of ceramics with clay formed by your own hands. Although the final pieces can look a bit rough, especially if it's your first time, their principles are easy to learn and you can craft a half-decent piece on your first try.

Handbuilding is also good for people who want to try out ceramics for the first time, as it gives you a lot of fundamental hands-on experience working with clay. Check out our Hand Building classes!

What do I need to bring and wear to my handbuilding pottery class?

Wear casual and comfortable clothing you won’t mind getting wet and dirty with clay! We would also recommend removing any dangling jewelry on your person before conducting any pottery activity, as well as wear closed-toe shoes in our studio for safety reasons. We also suggest trimming your nails before class so as to not obstruct your process when handling clay.

Am I allowed to reschedule my class?

Yes, you can reschedule up to 48 hours before your next class. This is done via the customer portal in your booking email. Maximum extension period for rescheduling is 30 days from the original date of booking. Strictly non-refundable in cash once the booking has been confirmed.
